After a recent birthday, I felt guided to try to find a published poem I had written as a teenager. It was called “The Heavens Weep.” In June 2026, as I reflected on the state of the world, I also felt guided to offer a re-interpretation of the poetic and metaphoric words in the poem as they seemed very relevant for today’s reality. In essence, the poem is a call for a “reality check” and for Clarity, Understanding, Hope, Courage, and Compassion. So, I will first present the poem as it was written many years ago, and I will then offer a re-interpretation of, a commentary about, each sentence, or refrain, as it relates to today’s reality.
THE HEAVENS WEEP
The heavens weep white crystals, frozen tears,
Which fall on children playing. When each hears
And sees amidst the dribble signs of dread,
They flee in spurts toward home, confused instead
Of frightened. Yet, above, clouds frown, in grief,
As blue skies peer between a mist. Relief
Is why they weep. These evils pounce and grin,
Destroying innocent, untarnished Doves,
The children blessed by God’s and parents’ loves.
The clouds then pour white tidings pure—a key
To keep the innocent unblemished, free.
(Carroy U. Ferguson, The Quill, Bowdoin College, 1966)
Poetic Refrain 1: The heavens weep white crystals, frozen tears, which fall on children playing.
In my award-winning book (Evolving The Human Race Game, 2017), I suggest that we as a human species are Consciousness-Energy Vibrational Beings, currently stuck “playing” three ego-centered games on planet Earth and forgetting that we are the Creators of these games. As Consciousness-Energy Vibrational Beings, there are Higher Vibrational Aspects of ourselves, the planet, and the cosmos, which we metaphorically and symbolically refer to as “the heavens.” I am suggesting here that it is these Higher Vibrational Aspects that compassionately “weep,” out of awareness and concern about how we (the “children” of planet Earth, the cosmos, and All-That-Is) are currently stuck (apparently “frozen”) “playing” what I call these three ego-centered games: the Security Human Race Game, the Sensory Human Race Game, and the Power Human Race Game.
Poetic Refrain 2: When each hears and sees amidst the dribble signs of dread, they flee in spurts toward home, confused instead of frightened.
Although all three ego-centered games are currently fueled by fear, they in essence actually represent “confusion” about who we truly are. All of the inhumane acts that we have carried out toward one another currently and over recent years and the centuries (“the dribble signs of dread”) represent our fears about the nature of the unconscious and our projections of these fears onto a perceived “different other.” That is, at individual and collective levels, we as human beings appear to be largely disconnected from our inner life and multidimensional nature, our Higher Self. Yet, at some level, we sense the underlying essence of and have a desire to uncover our Truer Selves (desiring to “spurt” toward the safety, security, and power of “Home” as we seek to consciously re-connect with our true and authentic Higher Self, “Home”). In that light, I am suggesting that we may also uncover that we are all unique Consciousness-Energy Vibrational Aspects of All-That-Is. Today, our scientists currently frame, understand and characterize this phenomenon in terms of a quantum energy level of reality (e.g., The “God particle” is the popular nickname for the Higgs boson, a subatomic particle theorized to give all matter in the universe its mass. Its existence helps explain why elementary particles [like quarks and electrons] have weight and form the physical universe).
Poetic Refrain 3: Yet, above, clouds frown, in grief, as blue skies peer between a mist.
I am suggesting here that our Higher Selves have greater awareness and Understanding about our individual and collective ego struggles. And, while our Higher Selves sense the separation and defensive barriers (“frowns”) that our fear-laden egos have constructed, and experiences the “grief” about this separation, They nevertheless have Clarity, Understanding, Hope, Courage, and Compassion about our individual and collective growth-promoting journeys on the planet and in the cosmos. Clarity, Understanding, Hope, Courage, and Compassion are the “blue skies peer(ing) between (the) mist” of our fear-driven ego games.
In the aforementioned book, I discuss what I call Archetypal Energies, Higher Vibrational Energies that are aligned with our Higher Selves. They operate deep within our individual and collective psyches to guide us toward our optimal selves and optimal realities. We tend to experience them as “creative urges.” I use easily recognized terms to evoke a common sense of these Archetypal Energies. I have identified 25 of them, vibrating at particular frequencies. Hope and Courage are what I call Foundational Archetypal Energies (2 of the 7 Foundational Archetypal Energies identified). Clarity, Understanding, and Compassion are what I call Spiritually Integrative Archetypal Energies (3 of the 14 Archetypal Energies identified). Archetypal Energies vibrate at higher frequencies of Hz. Research, for example, has revealed that Compassion vibrates around 639 Hz; Clarity vibrates around 540 Hz; Understanding vibrates around 400 Hz; Courage vibrates around 200 Hz; Hope vibrates around 125 Hz. Many researchers have found the human whole-body fundamental resonant frequency to be about 5 Hz to 10 Hz (e.g., foundational pioneer researchers include Michael Griffin, author of the seminal textbook, Handbook of Human Vibration,1996, and Gunnar Rasmussen, a widely cited baseline researcher in 1983 who detailed the estimated natural frequencies of individual human organs and body; modern & contemporary researchers include the work of James Brownjohn & Xiahua Zheng, who investigated why laboratory measurement methods shift the fundamental frequency between 5 Hz and 10 Hz; and the research team of Marco Civera, Rachele Parravicini, Matilde Rizzi, Roberta Pili, and Cecilia Surace who have utilized advanced numerical modeling to update Rasmussen’s decades-old historical data).
Poetic Refrain 4: Relief is why they weep.
Archetypal Energies tend to flow naturally, seeking “form” and “expression”. At individual and collective levels, we give them “form” and “expression” as we consciously and often unconsciously engage in a variety of human interactions in numerous arenas. However, their natural flow can get blocked or jammed. Blocked or jammed energy always seeks release (“relief”). In consciousness-energy terms, when energy is not released, it builds up and can eventually erupt in distorted ways. Think of a tea kettle with boiling water and a lid on it. With human beings, that blocked or jammed consciousness-energy tends to erupt and manifest as self-limiting beliefs and distortions about how to perceive reality and who we truly are. Beliefs structure how we perceive reality, direct the focus of our individual and Collective Consciousness, and we act out accordingly. However, while powerful, beliefs are not truths. Beliefs are simply thoughts reinforced by emotions and imagination. Archetypal Energies, therefore, tend to have the effect of expanding our beliefs and our individual and Collective Consciousness. Fear, on the other hand, tends to have the effect of blocking or jamming the natural flow of energy, of fueling self-liming beliefs, and of restricting the focus of our individual and Collective Consciousness. Given how we have constructed our current reality, so it is that our Higher Selves “weep” as They also simultaneously seek to assist us in unblocking and releasing the natural flow of Archetypal Energies at individual and collective levels.
Poetic Refrain 5: These evils pounce and grin, destroying innocent, untarnished doves, the children blessed by God’s and parents’ loves.
We incarnate into the world as somewhat innocent, untarnished Consciousness-Energy Vibrational Beings (“innocent, untarnished doves”). Doves primarily symbolize peace, love, and spirit. And, because doves mate for life, they have also served as emblems of devotion, fidelity, and harmony. I am suggesting here that these are the “untarnished” gifts from All-That-Is with which we are all born. I now use the term All-That-Is since as a human species we have created so many versions of the God concept via our individual and collective projections, resulting in numerous conflicts and even wars. Suffice it to say that we are all born into a culture or cultures, and we all internalize various cultural beliefs and orientations in our own unique ways. Some of these cultural scripts, however, are self-limiting (Ferguson, 2023).
So, what are some of the distortions (the “evils [that] pounce and grin”) that we have created? In other writings (Ferguson, 2026), I have described them as the ego running amuck, unchecked power and greed, human interactions and human systems framed and carried out solely in transactional terms, mechanistic thinking that can easily turn human beings into “objects” and “the dehumanized other,” at a societal level the characterization of other human beings as “internal and/or external enemies,” autocratic and authoritarian leadership that engage in gaslighting and other tactics to suppress voting and free speech (Ferguson, 2024), militarism and wars (Ferguson, 2009), dogmatic and/or self-limiting beliefs (Ferguson, 2012) [e.g., my god is better than your god; my racial and/or ethnic group is better than your racial and/or ethnic group; my gender and/or sexual preferences are better than your gender and/or sexual preferences], and all the isms and phobias. These distortions, therefore, have the effect of “destroying” the untarnished gifts with which we are all born and our access to/for staying in touch with our Truer Selves.
Refrain 6: The clouds then pour white tidings pure—a key to keep the innocent unblemished, free.
If I was writing the poem today, I would probably just use the terminology “tidings pure” rather than “white tidings pure.” My empirical research has revealed that there is a festering race-linked wound in the human psyche that is connotatively connected to the colors “white” and “black” and how some people view the nature of their consciousness and inner life. In an empirical study, many race-linked “associative thought patterns” (core beliefs) were triggered when respondents (all Caucasian) in the study thought about the “nature of death” or the perception of the annihilation of consciousness. It was in these patterns that light-good and dark-bad connotations were present. That is, when these respondents thought about the nature of death as the annihilation of consciousness (darkness), an externalized projection onto the black race was evoked such that the black race “represented” the dark, unconscious, feared, and unknown parts of their senses of self (Ferguson, 2015; Ferguson, 1997).
However, many esoteric schools of thought speak of our “light bodies” as an aspect of our Higher Consciousness, without the above associative connotations. Rather, implied more are connections to greater Understanding, increased Compassion, and an enhanced capacity to use discernment, not judgment. Also, technologically, we can now “see” our auras, the light or energy centers thought to surround, interpenetrate, emerge from or align with the physical body.
Indeed, there are a number of devices and systems designed for viewing “auras,” including aura video devices. These systems combine biometric sensors and specialized software to generate real-time, colorful aura overlays on a live video feed of the subject (e.g., Aura Video Station like the AVS 7 Pro) or use biofeedback sensors and specialized cameras to measure a person’s electromagnetic energy and translate it into a customized, multi-colored portrait representing their current energetic state (e.g., traditional aura cameras like the AuraCam 6000; digital & 3D systems like the AuraCloud 3D; interactive AI photo booths like Foto Master). Implied here, then, is that the more we can understand our “light,” our emotional and Higher Energy states (“our tidings pure”), the more we become “free” of our fears and self-limiting beliefs about ourselves and one another.
I am suggesting here that to truly be “free” implies that we know that we can consciously choose to be our Truer Selves unconditionally (“untarnished”). The flip side of freedom, however, is responsibility (Ferguson, 2008). Such a perspective ultimately means that we have evolved to understand that we have the freedom to choose to “be” Conscious Creators and are courageous enough to embrace our responsibility for our own beingness and our own creations without needing or desiring to blame or do harm to a self-created enemy or a “dehumanized other” (Ferguson, 2007). With such a realization, we then learn and begin to consciously create and co-create with discernment and “heart-felt” resonance and coherence with our fellow journeyers. As implied in the research and findings at the HeartMath Institute, one key to coherence is connected to the wisdom and intelligence of our hearts. It is through such resonance and coherence as a human species that we learn to embrace and embody Clarity, Understanding, Hope, Courage, and Compassion for ourselves and other entities and species on the planet and in the cosmos, and thereby become free and responsible. We become enlightened Conscious Creators.
