Sonia Blumberg SoniaBlumbergBiographical Info Sonia Blumberg realized her life's work as a therapist while earning her first master of science degree through Arizona State University in Addiction Psychology. She intended to bolster her professional writing credentials and was initially reluctant to become a counselor. While studying addiction psychology and counseling, she was drawn to Carl Rogers and Irvin Yalom's client-centered philosophy and intuitively grasped interpersonal process group therapy methods. She then applied her skills during her group therapy sessions while completing her clinical practicum for her degree. During her internships, she witnessed the client-centered approach working in the lives of her clients. Blumberg has experienced a state of mind that is unconditional positive regard for her clients. She saw them make positive autonomous strides, ultimately improving their lives. Her clinical practicum experiences were the pivotal moments when she, as a counseling student, understood her purpose and therapy was actualized. Inspired and influenced by Irvin Yalom, Blumberg’s orientation is existential and humanist. Blumberg appreciates the postmodernist lenses of subjective experiences while honoring emotional relativity and their paradigms. Before her education in Psychology, Blumberg worked as a writer on addiction treatment methods for over a decade and explored a career in journalism in Sedona, Arizona, as a freelance reporter. Blumberg participated in numerous specialized certificate programs through Stanford during stay-at-home orders throughout covid-19 and completed a certificate through Harvard Medical School in 2021, Media and Medicine: How to Tell Stories that Make a Difference. Her Harvard multimedia contribution highlighted cognitive restructuring from Albert Ellis’s work in Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy. As one of only three participants who were non-MDs in a class of roughly 100 doctors, Blumberg was noted for her writing competence and techniques in Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and the mandatory use of keywords ‘if you desire internet recognition for your publication.’ In addition to her niche writing career in addiction medicine, Blumberg wrote a journalism story that sparked an international intellectual property dispute between community banking industry leader Dan Hudson and Brazil Fintech Nubank. Her story,” What's in A Name,” was intended to tell the history of Hudson's banking career and his rights to the business name Nubank. Hudson's ownership of the domain name nubank.com was at stake.
